Log D determination

Log D is the ratio of the equilibrium concentrations of all species (unionized and ionized) of a molecule in octanol compared to same species in the aqueous phase at a standard temperature (normally 25° C). It differs from LogP in that ionised species are considered as well as the neutral form of the molecule.

LogD is defined as:

where the sum is over all species (C) and  the subscripts oct and aq refer to concentrations in the aqueous and organic phases.

Syrris utilise FLLEX within an AFRICA system to separate the aquous and octanol phases after partitioning between the phases is complete.
